SECTION I - Getting To Harrisburg, PA

From Interstate 81 or 78 (South from Scranton)
Coming from Scranton or Allentown, Follow I-78 or I-81 South towards Harrisburg. When you begin to see signs for I-83 South, stay to the right and follow signs for 81 South, (the highway forks). After that interchange, watch for Exit 22, Front Street South. Front Street South, which becomes a one-way street will take you directly into downtown Harrisburg.

From Interstate 81 (East from Carlisle)
Coming from Carlisle and points West, on I-81 East, cross the Susquehanna River and take the very first exit (Exit 22 south) onto Front Street South. Front Street South, which becomes a one-way street will take you directly into downtown Harrisburg.

From Route 11 / 15 (South from Williamsport)
Coming from Williamsport and points North on Routes 11 & 15, follow South to I-81 North. Take I-81 North across the Susquehanna River and take the very first exit (Exit 22 south) onto Front Street South. Front Street South, which becomes a one-way street will take you directly into downtown Harrisburg.

From Route 15 (North from Gettysburg)
Coming from Gettysburg and points South on Route 15, follow North to I-83 North. Take 83 North over the South Bridge across the Susquehanna River. Take the very first exit (Exit 23) onto Second Street and into downtown Harrisburg.

From Routes 22 & 322 (South from State College)
Coming South from State College and points North on Routes 22 & 322, follow South to Routes 11 & 15 South. Follow South to I-81 North. Take I-81 North across the Susquehanna River and take the very first exit (Exit 22 south) onto Front Street South. Front Street South, which becomes a one-way street will take you directly into downtown Harrisburg.

From Interstate 83 (North from York)
Coming from York and points South on I-83, follow North to 581/83 split. Stay to the right and follow 83 North over the South Bridge across the Susquehanna River. Take the very first exit (Exit 23) onto Second Street and into downtown Harrisburg.

From the PA Turnpike - Route 76 (West from Philadelphia)
Coming from Philadeplhia and points East on the PA Turnpike (Route 76), follow 76 West to Exit 19 (283 North). Follow 283 North, stay in the left lane, to 83 South. Once on 83 South, pass Harrisburg East Mall, stay in the right lane, to Exit 23, which flows down onto Second Street and into downtown Harrisburg.

From the PA Turnpike - Route 76 (East from Pittsburgh)
Coming from Pittsburgh and points West on the PA Turnpike (Route 76), follow 76 East to Exit 18 (83 North). Follow 83 North to 581/83 split. Stay to the right and follow 83 North over the South Bridge across the Susquehanna River. Take the very first exit (Exit 23) onto Second Street and into downtown Harrisburg.

From Route 283 (West from Lancaster)
Coming from Lancaster and points East on Route 283), follow 283 North, once past Route 441, watch for signs to Harrisburg. You will exit to the right off 283, onto Route 283 North just before the entrance to the PA Turnpike, (if you wind up at Wendy's, you went too far). Once on 283 North, stay in the left lane, to 83 South. Once on 83 South, pass Harrisburg East Mall, stay in the right lane, to Exit 23, which flows down onto Second Street and into downtown Harrisburg.

SECTION II - Navigating the City of Harrisburg

Entering from Interstate 83 (onto Second Street in downtown)
As you come down the off-ramp of 83, you will be on Second Street, which is one-way, heading North. As you enter Harrisburg, you will drive under a train trestle. Almost immediately after that underpass is Chestnut Street, and the Market Square Parking Garage (on your left).
If the lot is full, start hunting for free on-street parking, or continue up Second street to Locust Street, make another right, and immediately on your left is the Locust Court Parking Garage. The new Riverfront Parking Garage is on Second Street between Locust and Pine Streets. If they are full too, continue up Second, and start hunting for on-street again.

Entering from the Harvey Taylor Bridge (at Forster & Front Streets)
You will generally enter Harrisburg (from the North) on one of three major roads. The M. Harvey Taylor Bridge, will bring you in from Camp Hill and Routes 11 & 15. Front Street will bring you in from I-81 and other points North. Forster Street will bring you in from North Seventh, and Cameron Street (via Herr Street). In any scenario, you will want to navigate to Third Street, heading South into the city proper.From the Harvey Taylor Bridge, stay straight on Forster, past Second Street, and make a right onto Third Street, heading South. From Front Street, make a left at the barricades onto Forster Street, cross over Second Street, and make a right onto Third Street, heading South. From Seventh or Cameron, follow Forster across toward Harvey Taylor Bridge, turn left onto Third Street heading South.Follow Third Street South to Walnut Street. Turn right onto Walnut, Right onto Second, Right onto Locust and immediately on your left is the Locust Court Parking Garage. If they are full, continue up Second Street to the Riverfront Parking Garage between Locust and Pine Streets. and start hunting for on-street parking.
