Mayor Linda D. Thompson extends a warm greeting and invites Harrisburg City residents and visitors from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States to experience the 2010 KIPONA Celebration. Loads of entertainment, activities and family fun for all, offered FREE on the banks of the beautiful Susquehanna River!
The KIPONA 2010 headlining talent will be the internationally acclaimed band, WAR, performing their timeless hits, Why can't we be friends, Low Rider, Spill the Wine, and many more. The Big Takeover, a Ska and Reggae Band from NY, Hank and Cupcakes, also from NY, Reggie Brown's Bunch of Funk, and the New Experience Band. Both stages will feature loads of regional and local talent brought to you by the work of The Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center and Stage on Herr, including Indie Barn Event, Camiella Band, Rhyne McCormick, Nina Scarcia, Cultivators, Emily Yanek, Jess Maurer Band, Antonio, Mark DeRose, Jah Works, and much, much more. A complete hour-by-hour listing of entertainment and activities will be found online here, and in the Kipona program book distributed throughout the festival.
PSECU ARTFEST: Produced through a partnership with the Greater Harrisburg Arts Council, Artfest features over 150 talented artists and crafts persons from across the country. A wide variety of unique works of art will be available for sale to the public. There is a $5 admission fee to access this area of the festival. Ticket good all 3 days.
CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES: BELCO Children's Village features a craft area along with the Sundance Vacation Stage. The Sundance Village stage will have Videokie (small fee), Game Shows, along with three (3) Special Magic Shows, including illusions and audience participation on each day of the festival. The Children's Village also includes inflatables and plenty of fun for children and families. Check the Kipona schedule for the Magic Show times as the nationally known magicians promise to mesmerize the audience.
MUSICAL & DANCE PERFORMANCES: Over 75 performances are scheduled by scores of musicians, dancers and entertainers on three sponsored stages: the Comcast Xfinity Liberty Grove Stage, The Sprint Market Street Stage, and the Sundance Vacation Stage in BELCO Children's Village.
CITY ISLAND ACTIVITES: The 14th Annual Native American Pow Wow, featuring Native American tribe members from throughout the Northeastern United States presenting free dance and drumming demonstrations, will be found on City Island. New this year will be two Native American processions from Swenson Plaza to the Pow Wow encampment on Saturday and Sunday. All of City Island's many attractions and vendors will also be open during regular hours throughout the weekend.
RIVER RACES AND COMPETITIONS: On Sunday, September 5th, the Annual Capital City Bassmasters Bass Classic in support of Leukemia/Lymphoma will begin with a shotgun start at 6:00 a.m., location TBA. The traditional Dick Reese KIPONA Canoe Classic will take place on Monday, September 6th, beginning with final registration at 8:00 a.m. The Bass Classic weigh-in and canoe races will take place at river level along Riverfront near Locust Street.
SPORTS TOURNAMENTS: The Fourth Annual Youth Street Soccer Tournament will take place on Monday, September 6th at 12:00 Noon (registration starts at 11:30am). Co-sponsored by the City of Harrisburg and the JT Dorsey Foundation, this event features a street soccer competition for youth ages 7-18. The Funtastik Footbag Tournament will again take place near the corner of N. Front and Forster Streets and the 26th Annual Breath of Nature Karate Tournament will take place on Saturday, September 4th, beginning at 8:00 a.m. in Carousel Pavilion on City Island.
LABOR DAY TRIBUTE: David Gash, President of the Harrisburg Region Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO has been invited to present a Labor Day Address on the Comcast Market Street Stage on Monday, September 6th at 10:00 a.m.

FIREWORKS: The Gala Kipona Fireworks display, the largest in the region, will be fired from City Island on Sunday, September 5th, at approximately 8:35 p.m., with Monday, September 6th slated as a rain date.
ATTENTION PET OWNERS: For public safety concerns, animals, bicycles, and skateboards are prohibited throughout Riverfront Park Festival Area.
