Mayor Linda D. Thompson invites Harrisburg City residents and visitors from throughout the Mid-Atlantic United States to experience the 2010 KIPONA Celebration. Loads of entertainment, activities and family fun for all, offered FREE on the banks of the beautiful Susquehanna River!
DATES & HOURS:
10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
FIREWORKS: The Gala Kipona Fireworks display, largest in the region, will be fired from City Island, date to be announced.
PSECU ARTFEST: Produced through a partnership with the Greater Harrisburg Arts Council, Artfest features over 150 talented artists and craftpersons from across the country. A wide variety of unique works of art will be available for sale to the public. An admission fee to access this festival area.
CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES: The Children's Village features amusement rides and games of chance along with the Sundance Vacation Stage.
MUSICAL & DANCE PERFORMANCES: Many performances are scheduled by scores of musicians, dancers and entertainers on four sponsored stages: the Comcast Market Street Stage, Locust Street Community Stage, Giant's Liberty Grove Stage and the Sundance Vacation Stage in BELCO Children's Village.
CITY ISLAND ACTIVITES: The 14th Annual Native American Pow Wow featuring Native American tribe members from throughout the Northeastern United States presenting free dance and drumming demonstrations will be found on City Island. New this year will be two Native American processions from Swenson Plaza to the Pow Wow encampment on Saturday and Sunday. All of City Island's many attractions and vendors will also be open during regular hours throughout the weekend.
RIVER RACES AND COMPETITIONS: The Annual Capital City Bassmasters Bass Classic in support of Leukemia/Lymphoma will begin with a shotgun start at 6:00 a.m. The traditional Dick Reese KIPONA Canoe Classic will take place on (Date to be announced). All of these events take place at river level on and around the Mayor's Barge between Locust and Cranberry Sts.
SPORTS TOURNAMENTS: The 4th Annual Youth Street Soccer Tournament will take place on (Date and time to be announced.) Co-sponsored by the City of Harrisburg, The JT Dorsey Foundation this event features a street soccer competition for youth seven to eighteen years of age. The Summer Classic Footbag Tournament will again take place near the corner of N. Front and Forster Streets and the 26th Annual Breath of Nature Karate Tournament will take place (Date and time to be announced) in Carousel Pavilion on City Island.

PARKING: Some downtown meters may be bagged for festival vendors and artists, parking at all other city meters is free on weekends and the holiday. A fee is charged to park on City Island and the Harrisburg Parking Authority offers a daily fee at the Market Square Garage at 2nd and Chestnut Street. SECURITY: The Mayor reminded all Kipona attendees that animals, backpacks, bicycles, skateboards, and portable sound systems are prohibited in the festival area throughout Riverfront Park and on City Island during the extended Holiday weekend. All packages and carryalls are subject to search by police for security purposes.
